This emulator plays PlayStation 2 games in your web browser:
You may know the name Play! if you tried PlayStation emulation. The emulator lets you play your favorite PlayStation 2 titles on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS devices. Play now ! Developer Jean-Philip Desjardins unveiled Play!.js, a version of the emulator playable on your web browser.
The emulator is a prototype (and it looks like it), but it’s also a big step towards accessible PlayStation 2 emulation. The ease of access alone is phenomenal, and while a number of standard emulator features are missing, Play!.js is still a technical marvel.

How This PlayStation 2 Web Browser Emulator Works
The Play!.js emulator runs ISO, CSO, CHD, ISZ, BIN, or ELF files, which you will need to provide yourself. (NOTE: We’re not going to tell you how to get them, so don’t even ask.) Luckily, you don’t need a copy of the PS2 BIOS to use this tool, as it’s already bundled. For now, however, you’ll have to stick with using your keyboard as controllers aren’t supported yet.
As you would expect from a brand new emulator, not all titles work on Play!.js at this time; even those that the program can open often have major or minor problems. Around 400 titles are currently playable in the emulator, with another 1,200 in various stages of compatibility. You can view the full compatibility list here.
I jumped Virtual Fighter 4 in the emulator to test it myself. (See below.) It was choppy, slow and choppy, but I was playing VF4 in Chrome – a remarkable sight indeed.
It should be noted, however, that as Desjardins himself asserts, this is only an experiment for the time being. This is not the main goal of Play! emulator project, and it’s not intended to support all PlayStation 2 games. Right now, it’s more of a fascinating look at what’s possible, and on that note, c is certainly impressive. But for the definitive PlayStation 2 emulator experience, you better look elsewhere.
