How to activate Google Chat on browser and smartphone
Google integrated Chat into Gmail last year. While the option was initially available to Workspace users, it made its way to Gmail users on iOS, Android, and the web in May 2021. To compete with its rivals, Google has brought the ability to easily access chat directly from Gmail. However, to use it, you must activate Google Chat for Gmail. Activate Google Chat on mobile

-Then select your account and go to “General”
-For Android, toggle “Show chat and spaces tabs”. If you are using an iOS device, enable the “Show chat and spaces” tab.
-After that you will see Chat and Spaces icons at the bottom of the screen.
Enable Google Chat on Web Browser
-Open your Gmail account and go to settings
-Then select “See all settings”
– After that select “Chat and Meet” from the top menu
– You will have the choice to select “Google Chat”, “Classic Hangouts” and “Off”
– You will then see a sidebar for your chats and rooms on the right side of your Gmail inbox.
To start a chat on mobile, just tap the chat icon, then on the “New Chat” popup in the lower right corner, type a person’s name here. You can also create a space. For web, click the plus sign in the corners of the Chat or Spaces boxes. You’ll see a drop-down menu, much like on mobile, you need to type a name in the top field to chat with a person, after which you’ll be taken to a small pop-up box.
